Wing Avenue Baptist Mission was started by the First Baptist Church,
Owensboro, Kentucky, when Dr. Robert E. Humphreys was pastor of
First Baptist. The mission held its first business meeting on
January 29, 1949, in a two-story building on the corner of Wing and
Payne Avenues. In 1955, while Wing Avenue was still a mission of
First Baptist, the current sanctuary as well as the educational
facility was built. With 279 charter members from the mother church,
Wing Avenue Baptist Church became a fully constituted congregation on
January 6, 1957.
